Through this study, measurements are taken of pressures, volumes, short circuits between heart chambers and morphology, as well as several blood vessels of the body.

This is done using an iodinated contrast medium injected through the catheter and visualized by radiology equipment using X-rays.

As advantages, all the projections allow for studies of heart and coronary angiography and angioplasty, and embolization of tumors and vascular malformations. Besides that, currently, many of the procedures performed in this field are aimed at the realization of endovascular treatment of various human organs.

When this study is performed, the definitive diagnosis of the state of the coronary arteries and valves is also performed.

The main benefit is that these hemodynamic tests are performed through digital angiography, which requires the use of catheterization and can generate an accurate diagnosis.

 It is also useful in diagnosing and treating vascular aneurysms, vascular malformations, bleeding artery embolization, stent placement, assessment of fine vessels, identification of tumors and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), which involves dilation of the strictures on the arteries that supply the heart, that have been previously been identified via diagnostic cardiac catheterization.
